Michael Halbye Verbier Obituary, Death:- Michael Halbye, Vice Chairman of the Lego family’s investment company, Kirkbi passed away in a skiing accident on Saturday in the 4 Vallées ski area in Verbier, Switzerland.
He was 64 years old. During a ski trip, Halbye fell on a slope and sustained internal injuries. Despite being taken to the hospital, he succumbed to internal bleeding. Halbye had been a member of Kirkbi’s board since 2020 and was appointed vice chairman in 2022.
He was highly regarded within the organization and by those who worked closely with him. In a heartfelt statement, Kirkbi’s Chairman Thomas Kirk Kristiansen expressed deep sorrow over the sudden loss.
“We will miss Michael as vice-chairman, but first and foremost as a person. Honor be to his memory,” he stated. The company has asked for privacy on behalf of Halbye’s family as they process this unexpected and profound loss.
Beyond his role at Kirkbi, Halbye was also a board member of the Mary Foundation, an organization chaired by Queen Mary of Denmark. The foundation focuses on issues such as bullying, loneliness, domestic violence, and overall well-being.
Queen Mary expressed her condolences, describing Halbye as a person with “rare positive energy, extensive knowledge, and a strong commitment to making a difference for those outside the community.” She also noted that he was her personal friend and will be missed dearly by many.
Michael Halbye’s connection to the Danish royal family extended beyond professional involvement. Danish media reported that he once played a role in introducing King Frederik (then Crown Prince) to the business world in Denmark, which later evolved into a personal friendship.
Professionally, Halbye had an accomplished career in the consulting industry, notably helping establish and expand McKinsey & Company’s presence in Denmark. His leadership and vision contributed significantly to the firm’s success in the region.
The news of his passing was also reported by Swiss media outlet Le Nouvelliste, which confirmed that the fatal accident involved a 64-year-old Dane in Verbier.
